Stand Up, by Kayla Vogel

What are you doing for others?
A value first instilled by our mothers
We write that all men are free
But is that a mask covering reality?
Today is the day we stand for our brothers.

Who dares to put up a fight
For the morals and values that are right?
When our differences should make us equal.
Our prejudice writes an unending sequel
To the misguided way of our nation’s plight.

Whether gay or straight, black or white,
The world of equality is in our sight,
In the end our world will see,
A longer concept of a family
As all individuals stand together with might.

  1. I especially like the lines "We write that all men are free/ But is that a mask covering reality?" Your poem is a great call to action for equality.
