Acceptance, by Susan McEwan

Turning the corner,
The picketers on the corner don’t know who I am,
My marriage for 17 years,
Is an abomination to their ears.

I take a nervous, deep breath,
I turn again at the first left,
Holy mother of God—I’m seeking
            my education—have mercy on me.

She did.  So did my instructors

  1. I like this message, Susan. If we care about diversity, we need to include all types of diversity--not just the ones we may be comfortable with.
